Sheetrock & Insulation

Kerry and Korey Kern and Mike Protelsch began sheetrocking the new link today.

Korey trims a piece of sheetrock to size. Sheetrocking is dusty, messy work, as you can see all the dust that is created here.

Mike Johnson went to work framing another room on the second level of the addition.

Norm Glewwe cuts pieces of insulation to size and then Matt Glewwe and Rick Hillegas put them in place in the rafters.

Framing and Sheetrock

Working on a Wednesday

Workers continue to tear out the exterior wall of the pastor's office.

And now the wall has been completely removed.

Mike Johnson continues his work of framing the new link that will connect the addition to the existing building.

Bill Heinemann installs ventilation chutes that will allow cool air to circulate beneath the roof of the new addition. During the winter, this will help prevent snow from melting and re-freezing, keeping ice dams to a minimum.

This is the door that leads from the Fellowship Hall and used to lead down a flight of steps on the western exterior of the existing building. Now it's actually an inside door, located in the stairwell of the new addition, although it doesn't go anywhere!

Link

Work continues on the link between the existing building and the addition. Mike Johnson and crew continue framing, while other works cut through one of the exterior walls of the pastor's study.

Stairs

The stairwell between the existing building and the new addition begin to take shape.

And framing begins on the new link.

8 Degrees!

Mike Johnson's crew stays at work, even though it's only 8 degrees outside, and there's a wind chill of -9. Here they assemble trusses to be used for the roof of the addition. Tomorrow a large crane will come and lift these trusses into place.

Day 36

By Monday, almost the entire second story of the addition had been walled in.

The enclosed, heated lower level of the addition.

The storage closet in the basement has been removed to make way for the new lift.

Days 34 & 35

The power at the church was out at the end of last week, so picture taking and posting were delayed. But here's what happened at the end of last week. The walls for the second level begin to go up.

The lower level is now completely enclosed and is being heated. As of Sunday, the temperature in the lower level of the addition was 51 degrees.

Construction: Day 32

Mike Johnson climbs a ladder to work on the link between the existing building and the addition. This small area will be the location of the stairway between the two buildings.

The first floor of the addition is ready to receive the outer shell.

Working in the Snow

Mike Johnson and crew lay the floor for the 2nd story of the new addition. The video was shot through a dirty window. Hence the cloudy images.

The front entryway was covered to keep workers warm as they worked to cut through block and concrete.

More Backfilling and Framing

Backfilling right in front of the main entry way. The loud noise you hear in the middle of the video is from the bucket getting hung up on a rock in the ground.

Second Story
